California is reaching out to Canadians with a new tourism campaign, reminding them of the long-standing bond between the two regions—and offering real incentives to return.
Unveiled today by Visit California, the campaign includes a partnership with Expedia that offers up to 25% off on more than 1,000 hotels, attractions, and experiences across the state. A special landing page has been created for Canadians to access these deals.
In 2023, more than 1.8 million Canadians visited California, spending $3.72 billion. This year, numbers have taken a hit. Canadian visits dropped by 12% in February compared to the same month last year, marking the first major dip since the pandemic. The decline is attributed to economic challenges and a shift in Canadian travel preferences due to broader impacts from U.S. policies under the Trump administration.
Caroline Beteta, President and CEO of Visit California, emphasized the campaign as a show of gratitude. “Canadians are important to California – contributing to our culture, our economy, and our tourism industry,” she said. The new video, California Loves Canada, highlights this connection through scenic visuals and a clear message: Canadians are missed and welcome.
The campaign builds on Visit California’s existing $5.2 million annual marketing investment in Canada, underscoring the significance of the Canadian market to the state’s tourism sector.
