The County of Newell, which include Brooks, Rolling Hills, and Duchess is located in Southeast Alberta. It is centrally located (about 2 hours) from three of Alberta’s main cities – Calgary, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.

Dinosaur Provincial Park
This is the most popular destination in the area, though many think that is in Drumheller.
Located about half an hour from Brooks, this place is a must visit if you are visiting Alberta. Camp, tour, and explore all that Dinosaur Provincial Park has to offer. There is so much to see and do at Dinosaur Provincial Park that in order to truly enjoy the entire extent of the park you should be prepared to stay a day or two. If you are planning on checking out Dinosaur Provincial Park during the busy seasons (July and August) be sure to book in advance so as not to be disappointed. Brooks Aqueduct
The Brooks Aqueduct spans a shallow 3.2 km wide valley, suspending a concrete sling twenty metres above the prairie. This aqueduct was once used to help with irrigation for farms in the area. It is over 90 years old and is now a National and Provincial Historic Site. This monument to pioneers who developed the region can now be toured with a guide during the summer months. Details
Lake Newell – Kinbrook Island Provincial Park
Lake Newell is a fantastic lake for all water enthusiasts. Bassano Dam
The Bassano Dam is definitely a sight worth checking out if you are in the area. All the water delivered through the Eastern Irrigation District irrigation system is diverted from the Bow River at the Bassano Dam. A system of over 4500 km or canals and drains, plus thirteen internal storage reservoirs, it serves 1200 irrigation farmers as well as industry, wetland habitat projects, and a population base of 18 000 people. This dam began being built in 1910, and was refurbished in 1984.

Established in 1976, the EID Historical Park preserves the history of the settlers who settled the area starting in 1917.
