A distinctive part of Edmonton’s skyline, the Muttart Conservatory offers a year round escape into the beauty of the world’s plant life. Since it opened in 1976, the Muttart’s vibrant, colourful, tranquil and inspirational pyramid display gardens have been a welcome oasis for visitors.

The Muttart Conservatory was designed by award-winning Canadian architect Peter Hemingway. It has four themed pyramids: Arid, Temperate, Tropical and Feature. The exhibits in the Feature pyramid change between five and seven times per year.

Guided Pyramid Tours

Guided Pyramid Tours are led by knowledgeable interpreters that know all the details about the plants and species growing inside. Visitors can learn interesting facts about various plants from around the world and the climates they grow in! Tours run 20 minutes per pyramid and themes will vary, but will always feature fascinating, beautiful and bizarre plants. Guided tours are free with facility admission. Tour schedules and details are available online.

Self-Guided Tours

Visitors can explore the pyramids at their own pace using one of the facility’s printed maps, or by following a QR Code tour on their smartphones. The QR Codes are posted at the entrance of each pyramid. Each tour is designed to last approximately 15 minutes. The QR code in the Feature Pyramid provides you with information about the year’s feature pyramid displays. More information is available online.

Drop-in Programs

The Muttart Conservatory has special drop-in programming which changes throughout the year. Programs are designed to engage visitors of all ages as an added bonus included with admission. Check the website regularly to see upcoming programs.

Muttart Programs

The Muttart Conservatory offers a wide variety of courses and programs for children, adults, and families in art and plant care. Courses for adults include making mini terrariums and living frames, and caring for houseplants. See current programs on offer and register online.

The Muttart also offers school and group programs throughout the year that teach children the importance of plants and some basic growing strategies.

Day Camps

Children between the ages of four and 13 can go on a new adventure every day at the Muttart Conservatory!

Special Event Days

There’s always something new happening at the Muttart Conservatory. Special Event Days are planned throughout the year to give visitors unique, interactive experiences. Check the website regularly to see which upcoming events you want to take in.

Birthday Packages

Party under the pyramids! A unique, themed birthday awaits your child at the Muttart Conservatory—it will be a day they won’t forget! Birthday parties are available year round, but space is limited. Parties must be booked at least one month (30 days) in advance.

The Muttart Conservatory is located at 9626 – 96A Street. Major roads around the Muttart include Scona Road, Connors Road and 98th Avenue. Major nearby landmarks include the Low Level Bridge and the North Saskatchewan River.

Parking at the Muttart Conservatory is free of charge. There is a large, paved parking lot immediately outside the Conservatory.

What about Accessibility & Amenities at Muttart Conservatory?

Wheelchair access to the Conservatory is rated as “Very Good”. This attraction offers accessible parking, power doors at the main entrance and pyramid entrances, ramps to the pyramids (steep – assistance may be required), a ramp to the greenhouse, accessible surfacing and accessible washrooms. Please note that the Arid pyramid has steps, and therefore is considered partially accessible.

Visitors can dine at the Muttart’s Culina Café, which creates honest, creative comfort food from the Muttart’s wonderful fresh greenhouse-grown greens and herbs all year round!
