The popular hot dog, topped with relish, cheddar cheese, and bacon in a toasted bun, had been discontinued but is returning on May 21st due to strong customer demand.

A&W is highlighting the return through a short documentary film, a first for a quick-service restaurant regarding a menu item.

The heart of this revival is captured in the 18-minute documentary, “Bring Back The Whistle Dog.” This film, a first of its kind in the quick-service restaurant industry, goes beyond mere advertisement, delving into the fervent campaign led by the Whistle Dog Warriors. These advocates, spanning from Winnipeg to Vancouver, engaged in varied grassroots efforts—from petitioning to songwriting, from rallying radio support to inundating A&W’s social media—all to bring back a hot dog that has unexpectedly evolved into a Canadian cultural icon.

The world premiere was fittingly held in Vancouver, where A&W is headquartered.

Per the news release, the documentary itself has transcended the bounds of marketing gimmickry, earning accolades at renowned international film festivals in cities such as Tribeca, Paris, and London.
