Starting May 9 at 9 a.m., any Albertan who has been under a mandatory evacuation order for seven consecutive days or more can apply for a one-time emergency evacuation payment.
Eligible evacuees will receive $1,250 per adult and an additional $500 per dependent child under 18 years.
This means that an evacuated family of four will receive $3,500. Evacuees should register online.
The payment can be applied for using an Alberta.ca account, which can be created if the applicant does not already have one. The account does not need to be verified to apply. The link will be available on May 9th.
The payment will be sent via e-transfer, with funds taking up to 24 hours to arrive after the application. If an applicant is unable to receive an e-transfer or apply online, they can call 310-4455 or the Alberta Supports Contact Centre at 1-877-644-9992 for assistance.
Applicants can only apply for the payment once per event, and applications will remain open for 30 days after the end of the evacuation order.
The government is also working closely with First Nation and Métis communities to ensure supports are provided directly where appropriate.
As of May 7, there are 21 communities under evacuation across the province, with more than 21,000 people evacuated.
