Amazon today launched Amazon Counter in Canada – a new network of staffed pickup points where customers can pick up Amazon packages at convenient locations like existing shops in communities across the country.

Those who shop on Amazon.ca or the Amazon app, can choose delivery to a counter location. Customers can search the preferred location during the checkout process using their postal code. This works with Two-Day and One-Day shipping at no additional cost.
Amazon says customers will receive an e-mail that includes either a barcode, six-digit code or information via the Amazon Shopping app that’s needed to retrieve their package as soon as their packages arrive. They then have three days to pick up their package from a locker and seven days to collect their package from a counter location.
This option is available for millions of items sold on Amazon Canada.
Amazon says customers will have access to hundreds of Counter locations across Canada starting today and the company plans to add hundreds more next year.
Counter is part of Amazon’s network of pickup points called Amazon Hub which also includes Locker, a secure self-service kiosk. Amazon Locker pickup requires the Amazon Shopping app on your smartphone. It uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to connect to the locker when you have a package to pick up. Once connected, you can tap a button on the app to open the locker and pick up your order.

Amazon says the businesses that partner for pickup locations have the potential of increased foot traffic and sales.
“Offering Amazon Counter is good for our business and customers,” said Afzal Khan, owner and proprietor of Electroshack Computer & Cellphone Repair shop in Vaughan, Ontario in a news release.
“We see regular customers more often and add new customers every day. Whenever they come in to pick up or drop off their packages, they also learn about the unique electronic repair services we provide to the community. In this competitive age, Counter brings steady revenue and an element of old-fashioned relationship-based business back to us. We could’ve never afforded the advertising to bring in this volume of new business.”
