Alberta Reports 678 New COVID-19 Cases, Highest Since May 2021

Alberta reported 678 new COVID-19 cases on August 18th, the highest daily case count recorded since May 20, 2021

Currently, there are 5933 active cases across Alberta, an increase of 306 from yesterday.  There were 184 people being treated in hospital for COVID with 48 in intensive care units. The positivity rate was 6.95 per cent.

Alberta also reported two more deaths. There have been a total of 2,338 deaths.

The R value, also known as the reproduction number, describes whether cases are currently increasing, decreasing or staying the same was 1.25 (with a confidence interval of 1.2-1.31) as of August 8th.

 

Dr Deena Hinshaw tweeted new COVID-19 case break up between the unvaccinated and vaccinated people. 74% of the new cases are unvaccinated against COVID-19.

Of the 136 non-ICU, 84.5% are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. Of the 48 in ICU, 93.8% are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.
