Brewster Inc. Charged For Columbia Icefields Explorer Bus Accident That Killed Three People

On July 18th of 2020, three people were killed and more than 14 people were critically injured when an Ice Explorer bus rolled down on the way to Columbia Icefield.

 

Brewster Inc., the operator of the tour, has been charged with eight counts under the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act relating to the use and maintenance of seatbelts, failing to control hazards and failing to ensure equipment was in safe operating condition.

There were 25 people on board the ice explorer when the bus veered from the road and rolled about 50 metres down a moraine embankment on the Athabasca Glacier located along Icefields Parkway before coming to rest on the roof.

The vehicle driver was also injured.

As per the Alberta government news release, the matter is scheduled for June 23 in Jasper provincial court.

The RCMP is also investigating the incident.
