Calgary Zoo has announced that Tut, a 10-year-old king penguin at the Calgary Zoo died on Thursday after undergoing surgery earlier this week.
Announcing the death through a social media post, the zoo said, “At the end of January, Tut began to have an upset stomach, sometimes regurgitating his fish and had less of an appetite. A CT scan identified a large mass in his abdominal coelom. After surgery earlier this week, he rallied but sadly the damage was too great and he passed away yesterday afternoon.”

The Zoo said that the king penguin arrived at the zoo in 2012 as a hand-raised chick. Calgary Zoo’s Animal Care team members helped him to adapt and gradually learn to swim and catch fish on his own.
