Running from May through October, the lineup focuses on community events, live entertainment and outdoor gatherings, where an evening walk can easily turn into a concert, market visit or movie night in Tomkins Park.
This year’s lineup leans heavily into free and budget-conscious summer activities, with outdoor concerts, public movie screenings and community markets spread across the avenue from May through October. It is the kind of season programming that makes it possible to spend an afternoon without much planning.
Here’s a closer look at the events planned this season:
- 17 on 17
Running May 17, June 17, July 17, Aug. 17 and Sept. 17, this free sidewalk concert series brings live music to several locations across the 17th Avenue corridor. The first performances begin Sunday, May 17, from 2 to 3 p.m. at five locations simultaneously, creating an easy and low-cost way to spend a summer afternoon. - MarketSpot Night Markets
Taking place June 12, July 24, Aug. 28, Sept. 18 and Oct. 17, these evening markets will fill Tomkins Park with local vendors and community activity. Organized by MarketSpot, the gatherings give visitors a chance to browse local products while spending time outdoors in the centre of the Beltline. - Honky Tonk Night Market
Scheduled for June 26 in Tomkins Park, this market is designed as an early lead-up to Stampede season. Organized by Honky Tonk Market, the event will feature local vendors and a casual evening atmosphere ahead of one of Calgary’s busiest summer periods. - 17 Ave Night Markets
Urban Productions will organize additional night markets on July 17 and Aug. 21 on the Western Canada High School lawn. The events continue the focus on local shopping and outdoor community gatherings during the peak of summer. - Cinema on 17
From Sept. 11 to 13, Tomkins Park will host three nights of outdoor movies paired with live performances and immersive experiences. Organizers say the goal is to make the screenings feel more interactive than a typical movie night in the park.
