RE/MAX, in collaboration with Montreal-based data analytics firm Local Logic, has released its 2024 rankings for the most livable neighbourhoods across Canada. These rankings are based on a variety of factors that align with Canadian preferences, according to a Leger survey.

These include affordability, proximity to work, walkability, access to green spaces and parks, proximity to health or medical services, neighbourhood density, public transit access, driving convenience, proximity to childcare and schools, and cultural diversity.
According to the report, the top neighbourhoods for liveability in Canada are:
- Downtown West End, Calgary, AB: Positioned as a gateway to Calgary’s core, this neighbourhood is revitalized with office conversions and increased retail activity, facilitated by excellent transit and road access.
- Daniel McIntyre, Winnipeg, MB: Known for its relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, Daniel McIntyre offers walkable local businesses and convenient public transit options, making it ideal for family living.
- Oliver/Wîhkwêntôwin, Edmonton, AB: Soon to be known as Wîhkwêntôwin, meaning “circle of friends,” this neighbourhood is favored for its community vibe and proximity to the river valley.
- Heritage, Regina, SK: This neighbourhood, with its rich history and potential for growth, is situated just east of downtown Regina.
- Sandy Hill, Ottawa, ON: Home to the University of Ottawa, Sandy Hill is vibrant and full of amenities, including easy access to downtown shopping and public transit.
- Quinpool Area, Halifax, NS: This commercial hub connects Halifax’s North and South Ends and offers a vibrant local scene with various businesses.
- Westmount, Saskatoon, SK: An affordable family-friendly area known for its historic homes and community-oriented living.
- Le Sud-Ouest, Montreal, QC: This trendy, walkable neighbourhood features historic architecture and a mix of residential options.
- Old Town, Toronto, ON: Toronto’s historic heart with iconic landmarks and extensive public transit options.
- Corktown, Hamilton, ON: Celebrated for its strong community spirit and cultural vibrancy, nestled between major city thoroughfares.
The 2024 RE/MAX report also includes a unique analysis categorizing Canadian neighbourhoods based on lifestyle preferences. Utilizing location scores from Local Logic, the report matches neighbourhoods to specific lifestyle personas developed from factors important to Canadians. This segmentation addresses various preferences, including the best areas for downtown living with or without children, suburban lifestyles, and specific groups such as first-time homebuyers, retirees, luxury seekers, climate-conscious buyers, arts and culture enthusiasts, food lovers, and health and wellness aficionados.
