Gas prices are set to rise on April 1st across New Brunswick due to an increase in carbon tax.

The provincial government is planning to increase gas prices by $10 per tonne on carbon-emitting products under the Gasoline and Motive Fuel Tax Act.

According to the news release, to meet the federal requirements New Brunswick is increasing carbon tax to $50 per tonne from $40 per tonne, effective April 1.

This increase will raise the carbon tax on gas by:

  • 2.21 cents per litre (from 8.84 cents per litre to 11.05 cents per litre) for gasoline
  • 2.68 cents per litre (from 10.73 cents per litre to 13.41 cents per litre) for diesel
