City of Calgary Announces Summer Camps and Free Summer Programs; Registration Now Open

The City of Calgary has announced that it will offer outdoor day camps for children ages six to 12 along with free family programming.

The City’s selection of free summer programs will take place in different locations across Calgary. These programs are for families and children to play in parks and learn about nature, all while being physically distant.

Calgary is also reopening a number of city-owned facilities including recreation centres, arenas, and sports fields this summer.

Outdoor summer day camps:

  • Outdoor Summer Art Studio 2020 (ages 6-12) – enjoy a variety of drawing, painting and mixed media in our outdoor greenspace
  • Outdoor Active 2020 (ages 6-12) – enjoy active games, sports, crafts and outdoor adventures

How to Register: Registration for outdoor summer day camps begins June 25th (today) with programming starting July 6.

Free summer programs:

  • Nice 2 Metre You – Family Fun: This FREE registered play program for families will provide an opportunity to have physically distanced fun outdoors right in your own community! Participants will stay active through play based learning, engage in nature education, crafts and more. Programming is for children ages 6 – 12 years old and must be accompanied by an adult, siblings welcome! All participants must register.
  • Community Nature Adventure Playground: Rediscover nature play!  Imaginations soar in this adventure space.
  • Unplug n’ Play 6 feet away: Free outdoor entertainment event that is geared for families of all ages. Two entertainers each evening, will ensure a fun time for all. Space is limited so participants must register in advance and will be asked to sign in at the event. Physical distancing procedures will be in place to ensure the safety of all.
  • Explore Parks Together: Unique program for older adults and their informal caregivers. Opportunities to be active and creative in the outdoors. Topics vary each week.
  • LEAD and Nature LEAD: Youth leadership program for youth 11 years old and up. Make new friends, learn lifelong skills and discover how to make a difference in the community and environment.
