Events Description

The last name Lougheed often recalls Peter Lougheed – Premier of Alberta from 1971-1985, but the Lougheed family name has long been a prominent and powerful name in Alberta and Canada. It all began with James Lougheed, a young lawyer from Ontario and his choice to move to Calgary in 1883. Marrying Isabella Clarke Hardisty in 1884, soon the trajectory of their lives would change forever. From lawyer, James would go to be a Senator, Cabinet Minister and Knight, bringing him, his family and this house into the spotlight.

Join us in exploring how his house became a signal of Albertan pride and Canadian nationalism, and how James and Isabella navigated the new lives they forged here together.
