Events Description
What do we lose when someone disappears – a species, a culture, a language, a voice?
A World Without Them is a visually immersive and emotionally powerful new work that explores extinction in its many forms, not only of the natural world but also of identity, community, and expression. Told through a series of original cinematic vignettes, this world premiere invites audiences into a realm where bodies become language and survival is a deeply creative act.
Co-created by Deaf artist and trailblazing Dora-nominated performer Landon Krentz and Ghost River Theatre’s Eric Rose, A World Without Them fuses physical theatre and the striking precision of visual vernacular – a performance technique rooted in Deaf expression that combines gesture, rhythm, facial expression, and role-shifting to tell stories in pure visual form.
Designed to transcend cultural and language barriers, this is a theatrical experience in which gesture replaces dialogue and movement becomes meaning. Time stretches. Bodies transform.
At its heart, A World Without Them is both intimate and epic: a love letter to those who came before, and a defiant stand for those still here. It is a bold act of reclamation, a celebration of Deaf artistry, and a call to imagine new futures where no one and no story is left behind.
