Events Description
The Poetic Phonotheque is pleased to announce the return of Nature & Culture 2026: International Poetry Film Festival to Calgary on Saturday, November 14, at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland.
Nature & Culture brings together poetry films, animation, documentaries, and experimental films from filmmakers around the world, exploring the relationship between nature and culture through moving images, sound, and poetry.
Now connecting four cities across three countries, the festival takes place in Helsinki, Malmö, Copenhagen, and Calgary. This year’s international digital edition features over 100 films from 40 countries, bringing together diverse voices and perspectives.
The Calgary event features four curated, 60-minute international poetry film programs, each introduced by a featured live poet: aLoT of Poetry, Flora Bews, Alanna Bluebird, and Alex Rettie. The festival will also feature a conversation with Calgary filmmakers Sheri-D Wilson and Sandi Somers about the creative process and possibilities of poetry film.
Worldthreading in spirit, Nature & Culture creates opportunities for connection, collaboration, and listening across borders. The festival invites audiences to consider what a poetry film can be, and how the ways we listen to people, places, and things change what they become to us.
Festival admission is free. As a suggested donation, guests are encouraged to purchase admission to The Confluence exhibitions and explore the historic site during their visit. Admission to The Confluence is free for Indigenous visitors.
Presented by the Poetic Phonotheque and Red Door Magazine, the Calgary festival is generously sponsored by the Writers’ Guild of Alberta and The Confluence.
