ROOTS: Mixed Media Art Inspired by Nature

Barb is delighted to present a comprehensive body of work for the first time in Calgary at cSPACE Mardaloop. The exhibit will commence on Monday, July 27 at 1 p.m. and conclude on Monday, August 10 at noon in the Hallway Gallery Level 2. Admission is complimentary and the building is open to the public Monday to Saturday. 8am to 8pm. Barb will be present to welcome visitors at a reception held on Thursday, July 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. for refreshments and a chance to view the artwork. She will also be available at the Artist Alley at cSPACE Mardaloop on Saturday, August 1st during the exhibit, so visitors may see her at her booth in the courtyard after viewing the show.

Having lived on Vancouver Island most of her life, Barb draws inspiration from the region’s natural beauty, from rainforests to the sea. Her childhood experience of living on coastal lighthouses and her connection to her First Nations heritage hold profound significance and are reflected in her art, hence, the exhibit’s title, ROOTS. Barb creates intuitively, particularly at the outset of a piece, working in multiples, and allowing a call-and-response process that enables her to paint more from a felt sense rather than relying on a reference or having a predetermined outcome. She prefers to take artistic licence by disrupting realism, which provides the freedom to be more expressive in her work. Barb is excited to re-establish herself as an artist in Calgary and to share her work with you.
