Events Description
This summer, the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo will be taken over by larger-than-life animal topiaries… but not for long! This one-of-a-kind summer garden experience can’t be found anywhere else in Western Canada, and will only be available for three short months. It’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate the warm weather and create new memories with friends and family at the zoo!
The zoo gardens will be home to 10 larger-than-life topiary-like sculptures or ‘WildScapes’, masterfully crafted into the shape of some of the world’s most stunning creatures. From a 24 foot-long snake to a 21 foot-tall giraffe, you’ll find yourself in awe of the size and artistry of the WildScapes. This unique garden experience is the ultimate summer activity, making a perfect family day out and a striking backdrop for photos!
You can visit WildScapes from June 17 through to mid-September 2023, for free with your daily admission ticket purchase.
What is a ‘WildScape’?
Similar to an animal topiary, these large living sculptures have been hand-crafted into the form of different animals using plants. Unlike a traditional topiary, our WildScapes are colourful, intricate, living sculptures made from a mosaic of different flowers, succulents, and other materials. Our WildScapes will range from human height (perfect for selfies!) to colossal sized (perfect for walking through and admiring from below!). Don’t take our word for it, check out WildScapes for yourself.
We’re so excited about WildScapes, we wet our plants! Get your cameras ready, you won’t want to miss out on this limited-time-only attraction.
