Events Description
As the dark days of winter give way to the growing light of spring and the approach of Easter, A Joyful Noise — thursday choir offers a moving program of substantial choral works that trace a powerful
emotional journey — from grief and sorrow to radiant joy.
From the deepest shadow of Christ’s death comes a mother’s anguished lament in Josef Rheinberger’s Stabat Mater. This lush Romantic setting of the Passiontide hymn captures Mary’s pain and turmoil at the foot of the cross through richly expressive harmonies.
Offering a moment of solace, Felix Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer sets the words of Psalm 55 for soprano solo, organ, and chorus. The work unfolds from quiet supplication to gentle consolation, culminating in the beloved “O for the wings of a dove.” We are delighted to feature AJN’s own Jessica Wagner as soprano soloist, with guest organist Wendy Nieuwenhuis.
In joyful contrast, and as a new adaptation of Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus reaches television screens, we celebrate the brilliance and exuberance of a young Mozart with his Missa Brevis in F (K.192), often
called the “Little Credo Mass” for its repeated declarations of faith. Written when Mozart was just 18,this sparkling example of Salzburg sacred music comes alive through the combined forces of soloists,
orchestra, and choir.
