For over 35 years the Legislative Assembly has celebrated the holiday season with Albertans by lighting up the Legislature Grounds and featuring festive musical performances in the beautiful Legislature rotunda and grounds.

From December 5 to 20, people are encouraged to come to the Alberta Legislature rotunda on Fridays at noon and 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy musical performances.

Lightup: Wednesday, December 3, 2025, 6 to 8 p.m.

  • 6 to 8 p.m.: Legislative Assembly Visitor Centre open – Free family friendly activities, musical performances and hot chocolate available by donation. Explore the Borealis Gallery, Capital Gifts, Democracy Discovery Centre and Pehonan Theatre. Washrooms available.
  • 6:30 to 7 p.m.: Light Up ceremony and festive musical performance on the south end of the Violet King Henry Plaza. Come join us for the countdown and light up of the majestic Legislature grounds, including the return of the big Christmas tree!
  • 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. : Cosmopolitan Music Society – Cosmopolitan Chorus and Overtones Handbell Ensemble

Friday Noon-Hour Performances: Edmonton and area schools perform in half hour timeslots from noon to 1p.m. on Fridays .

Friday and Saturday Evening Performances: Community groups perform in half hour timeslots from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

  • 12:30 p.m. to 12:55 p.m.: St. Vincent 4-5-6 Choir
  • 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Memory Lane Singers
  • 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Mill Creek Colliery Band

  • 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Nottingham Youth Choir
  • 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Sound Opportunity

Friday, December 19

  • Noon to 12:25 p.m.: Laurier Heights Grade 7 Band
  • 12:30 p.m. to 12:55 p.m.: Major General Griesbach School
  • ‘6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Edmonton Young Voices
  • 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Andiamo Sax Quartet

Saturday, December 20

  • 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Edmonton Endpins Quartet
  • 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Male Choir Leiderkranz

All performances are presented in the historic and grand Legislature Building Rotunda. — Entry is through the West Doors, security screening required for all visitors. Seating in the Rotunda is limited, priority should be given to those with mobility issues. Standing room available.
