Events Description

This New Year’s Eve, bundle up the family and head to Sir Winston Churchill Square to usher in 2024 at the New Year’s Eve Downtown Festival and Fireworks.

On Sunday, December 31, from 6:30 p.m. to 12:15 a.m., bundle up the family and head to Sir Winston Churchill Square and City Hall Plaza to usher in 2024 with free family-friendly programming, including music, roaming performers, holiday activities and free skate rentals.

This year’s New Year’s Eve Downtown Festival and Fireworks celebration will feature two fireworks shows – an earlier show at 9 p.m. to accommodate families with younger children, and a traditional fireworks show at midnight.

Let our emcee Ron Walker guide you through a wonderful night full of exciting performers. Musical performances by Martin Kerr, Dahlia and The Villains, Curt Sipihoko Paskwawimostos, and Métis fiddler Darla Daniels. Fire performances by FloWarrior, along with roving jugglers and acrobatics. Carolers from Korora will fill the City Hall Plaza with festive favourites everyone knows and loves.

Bring your skates and get your groove on as you take a spin on the City Hall Plaza ice rink to music by DJ Busyrawk. Free skate rentals and skate aids will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and the skate change room will be open from 6pm to midnight.

Warm up around a firepit, and purchase a warm meal or snacks from a variety of on-site food trucks, including Soner Donair, Tiramisu Bistro, Canadian Kettle Corn, and Canadian Maple Shack, who will give the first 1,000 people a free maple stick! The L’Espresso Organic Café will also be open for warm drinks and sweet treats.

The Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) and the Winspear Centre will be open as warming stations for those looking to get out of the cold. The AGA will have art programming and the Winspear Centre will be accompanied by the musical talents of Sticks and Stone Percussion. Light snacks and concessions will be available and open in both locations.

Explore the enchanting animation of the Lucion Spheres – moonGARDEN art installation as they fill Churchill Square and City Hall Plaza with the warm glow of the season.

Then countdown to the New Year’s Eve fireworks at 9pm, and with Mayor Amarjeet Sohi at midnight.
