For the past 30 years, New Music Edmonton (NME) has been hunting down the world’s most innovative, cutting edge sounds to bring back to Edmonton.
This will be New Music Edmonton’s 8th annual festival, and, we have a lot of phenomenal sound-oriented creativity to ring in spring 2020. As always our programming for the festival draws on a wide array of sonic art practices and celebrates in only a few days not only an exhilarating collection of beautiful creative imaginations making sound-based art, but also the natural curiosity and open ears of Edmonton audiences. We are proud of what the one-of-a-kind Now Hear This has become as the largest festival of its kind in our region.
Many artists will be giving their Edmonton début during the festival. Phth, a new Montréal vocal octet, will lead off the festival with a fabulous program of composed and improvised works, as well as folk and pop songs arranged in ways you never imagined possible. Meanwhile, also making their début in our city, Melody McKiver will give a solo recital of viola and electronics music ranging from minimal to danceable, with electronics and loops. We’ll also be welcoming free improv trio, Chimera, in a blistering performance bringing together three great musicians: Francois Houle, Norm Adams and Tim Crofts.
New Music in Edmonton (NME) has been Edmonton’s premier organization for the promotion and presentation of contemporary music and sound-related arts for three decades. NME is committed to seeking out and bringing the widest possible spectrum of musical and sonic art practices to its audiences.
