From an opaque sea, tangled beams emerge, as if giant hands had played Mikado with our world. This unusual structure is occupied by 11 little girls, teenagers and women, busy with… what? An all-consuming mystery! Fascinating gestural movement unfolds on the swaying stage: objects are fished out, repaired, the structure shakes, it crumbles, and everything starts anew. Their survival mechanism will draw these characters astonishingly close together and force them to transform.
In this show, the theatre becomes a flood where everything is in flux. Perhaps the troupe of actresses (and non-actresses), aged 5 to 70, will even manage to dredge a few sparkling pearls of pure joy from the abyss! This staggering performance uses water as scenery, sound and sense in a stunningly unique way. The spectacle will be disastrous or magnificent. Or both.
On the heels of Impatiences, White out, La chambre des enfants and De glace, L’eau du bain theatre company continues its sensitive search for an immersive, spellbinding art form caught between theatrical performance and installation. Créatures freely draws inspiration from the magical universe of Finnish artist Tove Jansson, known for her genre-defying novels and the Moomins, the beloved trolls of children’s literature. In this flowing, imaginative space, hierarchies dissolve as children and adults become one.
