Events Description

October 02 – October 16, 2019

The Festival presents 3 extraordinary feature length films (2 documentaries and 1 drama) and 1 animated short film by Canadian Domee Shi. The films have been recognized with many festival awards including one Oscar. Two of the feature length films are in Mandarin with English sub-titles. The third is in Uyghur and Mandarin with English sub-titles. The films brilliantly tell dramatic stories of love, of life, of challenges and of resilience. Together they explore the lives and the struggles of Chinese families as their members move from childhood to youth, to independence; and the decline into old age.

The audience will meet a celebrated visual artist coming to grips with his father’s advancing memory loss, a leading Chinese female poet with cerebral palsy confronting traditional Chinese family norms as she asserts her independence, and Uyghur school children facing life changing losses.

Each of these magnificent films presents an inspiring and compelling expression of the human condition in China that will let Canadians discover China one film at a time.

Language: Mardarin with English Subtitles
