Stepping into Ravel’s world means letting yourself be carried away by orchestral sounds and colours like a bouquet with a warm, exotic fragrance straight out of the collection of tales “The Thousand and One Nights’” This is what Schéhérazade offers us.
The opera L’Enfant et les Sortilèges (The Child and the Spells) was born out of a collaboration between one of France’s most famous novelists, Colette, and composer Maurice Ravel. The result is a highly imaginative libretto. Delighted by its exuberance, Ravel gave the musical work an extraordinary, sometimes surprising palette of colours, adding completely unprecedented instruments, such as a cheese grater! He also incorporated several dance styles, including ragtime! All in all, it is a work full of twists and turns that combines poetry, magic and humour.
A musical show for the whole family.
