Join us at the Diefenbunker for Winterlude 2024! Between February 2 and 18, participate in activities that celebrate the magic of winter, cultural diversity, and artistic creativity.

Inuit Art Workshop
Saturday, February 3 – Sunday, February 4, 2024
11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Workshops are 1 hour

The Diefenbunker values art as a means for expressing important personal connections with the Cold War and its impacts that are still present today. Participate in a family-friendly workshop to learn about unique Inuit art forms and their reflections of evolving landscapes and cultural traditions of Inuit people. You’ll also produce your own artistic creation, inspired by Inuit printmaking.

This event is included in the cost of museum admission. Advance registration is required, as spots are limited. Recommended minimum age is 8, and youth must be accompanied by an adult.

Follow the Rainbow
Wednesday, February 7 – Sunday, February 11, 2024
During the museum’s operational hours

Travel back in time and explore the four storeys of the Diefenbunker while you search for historic objects and retro décor in all the colours of the rainbow. Families will be given a guide for a visual scavenger hunt with varying levels of difficulty to suit all abilities. Complete the scavenger hunt to receive a prize!

This event is included in the cost of museum admission. This event is inspired by the Diefenbunker’s accreditation as a Rainbow Registered organization and its commitment to creating an inclusive space for all.

Diefenbunker Winter Carnival
Saturday, February 17, 2024
11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

During its time as a military base, the Diefenbunker held an annual Winter Carnival. Participate in these historic activities, with a modern twist — snow sculpting, snow painting, a tug of war challenge, or traversing the snowy trails of the scenic bunker hillside. Warm up indoors with hot chocolate or by exploring a temporary exhibit highlighting the traditions of the Winter Carnival through stories, videos, and artifacts.

Outdoor activities are free. The temporary exhibit is included in the cost of museum admission.

Snowflake Scavenger Hunt
Friday, February 2 – Sunday, February 18, 2024
During the museum’s operational hours

Stay warm and explore our 100,000-square-foot underground museum as you search for snowflakes and other signs of winter in our Snowflake Scavenger Hunt.

Families will be given a guide for a visual scavenger hunt, with three levels of difficulty to suit all abilities.

This event is included in the cost of museum admission.
