Events Description

The annual Lock ‘n’ Paddle event, which sees paddlers fill the Lift Lock with canoes and kayaks each summer returns with a colourful lighted paddlecraft parade and multiple lockages.

The fourth “Lock & Paddle” event is preparing to float its way back into Peterborough on Saturday, August 24th. This year, the Peterborough Lift Lock National Historic Site of Canada, in co-operation with The Canadian Canoe Museum will host a new “Light up the Night” event.

The paddlers will decorate their canoes and kayaks with glow sticks, lights, reflectors or anything that can light up the night! These decorated vessels will then parade from Lock 20 – Ashburnham up the canal to enter the world’s highest hydraulic lift lock, where they will be lifted 19.81 m into the night sky!

Experience this event as local vendors and entertainment as Peterborough Lift Lock National Historic Site of Canada host hundreds of paddlers and spectators.

On-site camping is also being offered for the first time ever at the Historic Site to the first 150 registrants.

In order to better grow this spectacular event and give everyone a chance to participate, the format will change to make the event more inclusive, giving everyone the chance to lock-through.
