1st Markham Cup Xiangqi Tournament

The Toronto and Markham Xiangqi (Chinese Chess)Associations are excited to announce that the inaugural 1st Markham Cup will be held on February 15 and 16. Players of all levels are welcome.

New and interested players are welcome to come and learn the beautiful game of Xiangqi. There will be various events featured including and an area for casual play, endgame puzzles, as well as demonstrations from the TXA’s founder and four-time Toronto champion, Peter Sung. All events aside from the tournament and gala are free of charge.

After the tournament, we will host a gala dinner and awards presentation to the winners at the Hilton Hotel Markham (8500 Warden Ave). The gala will feature a lion dance and various cultural performances in celebration of the lunar new year.

Tournament format: Swiss style, 7 rounds held over two days
Teams: Players may register individually or in teams of two
Prize pool: Over $4,000 in cash, with payouts to the top 8 players and the top scoring team
