Toronto Beaches Rib & Beer festival (BEWARE)
The best way to describe this event location is think Tourist Trap.
This location only has 4 rib vendors, other vendor types outnumber them by a large factor. Of particular note, this location has a substantial hidden parking charge.
Right around supper time 5pm within minutes after paying for parking, every one of the vendors run out of ribs, no warning of low supply at the parking gate where their overly eager attendants have you paying down to a science. The lot was far from full on a sunny weekend near the beaches. We should’ve realized the locals have already black listed this one.
At the pedestrian gate, there are no signs reminding us to expect it, but you’d think they’d post “Check your bags” or at least hire security personnel who can enunciate without a heavy accent. When you pause to ask clarification, the security personnel shoves you into the other security guard who speaks better English.
You basically pay $20 parking to be shoved by the security and you come away with NO ribs. This is a shameful event to bring guests of Toronto. With the way they hustle to get you to pay parking, you get the distinct feeling this event’s location is organized by ball park scalpers.
I don’t remember this Toronto beaches location being so bad. Other event locations are leaps and bounds better organized. They are much larger with dozens of rib vendors, friendlier staff with clear signs, cheaper at only $2/5 cover charge for better music, no surprise charges, and I’ve never seen every vendor run out of their main event food. Rip-off parking is one thing, but at the larger ones you basically will not come away empty handed; this is a MUST if you’re with guests.
