Events Description
The Riverdale Hub Gallery is excited to announce “Sunlit Canopy”, an exhibition by Helen Utsal.
Meet the Artist on Saturday, April 11th, with a reception from 2 to 4pm and artist talk at 3pm. On view from April 1st to 24th.
Discover the work of Helen Utsal, an award-winning contemporary landscape painter from Vancouver Island.
Rooted in time spent immersed in nature, Utsal’s practice is both meditative and expressive—capturing the quiet beauty, movement, and emotion of the natural world. Rather than recreating what she sees, she paints from memory and feeling, offering vibrant, imaginative impressions of forests, water, and light.
“I am endlessly inspired by trees—their diverse shapes, moods, and personalities. My goal isn’t to replicate reality, but to share my impressions of the forest… a place filled with wonder and possibility.”
Through unexpected colour and expressive mark-making, her work reflects moments gathered while hiking and paddling—glimmers of light through leaves, reflections on water, and the intricate textures of the land beneath our feet.
Step into a world where nature is reimagined through curiosity, joy, and a sense of wonder.
