For the love of Winter, and the joy of community, Northcrest Developments is bringing Hangar Skate back to YZD, the former Downsview Airport lands. Running December 19, 2025 to February 16, 2026, this much-loved seasonal tradition continues Northcrest’s mission to offer free, high-quality experiences that bring people together, inspire creativity, and transform one of Toronto’s most unexpected spaces into a place for everyone.
This year, the experience is bigger and better than ever, with just over 6,000 sq. ft. of ice to skate on, fire performances, musicians, snow-play zones, and creative arts workshops, all set against the extraordinary backdrop of a decommissioned airplane Hangar – and all for free.

Skate Sharpening: $5 per pair (for personal skates)

Special Dates:
- Dec 24 – A Winter’s Tale (12 PM – 5 PM): A festive family skate day featuring wintery characters and surprises.
- Dec 31 – A Very 80s New Year (12 PM – 5 PM): Mid-day music, retro vibes, and countdown fun for the whole family.

- Hangar Skate is ringing in 2026 a little early with an afternoon celebration that fuses art, rhythm, and play. Glide into our retro 80s skate party featuring the iconic DJ Me Time, rink-wide freeze-dance moments, and glowsticks that light up the ice—perfect for families and anyone who won’t make it to midnight. Countdown celebrations will happen at 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM, giving everyone two chances to kick off 2026 in style. Lace up for a mid-day skate party filled with throwback hits, neon flair, and family-friendly countdown fun.

- Jan 25 – Enchanted Forest (12 PM – 5 PM): Where light, nature, and imagination come to life at the YZD Plaza.
- Feb 14 – Fire & Ice (12 PM – 5 PM): A day where sparks meet frost at the YZD Plaza.
- Feb 16 – Family Day (12 PM – 5 PM): DJ set and arts activities to close the season.
Winter Weekends at YZD – Friday through Sunday from January 9 to February 16.
- Fridays (5 PM – 9 PM): DJ Skate Nights with Local DJs and Snakes & Lattes
- Saturdays & Sundays (12 PM – 5 PM): Free Learn-to-Skate programs and rotating arts workshops (Vibe Arts on Saturdays, Big River Bindery on Sundays)
