Hanji: A Thousand Years of Korean Paper Art – Hanji Meets Canada is a landmark exhibition presented in Toronto and Ottawa in celebration of Asian Heritage Month. As the first Hanji touring exhibition in Canada, it introduces audiences to the enduring legacy and contemporary evolution of Korea’s traditional handmade paper through the works of seven highly accomplished Korean artists. Spanning installation, sculpture, painting, and experimental forms, the exhibition highlights how Hanji continues to evolve as a contemporary medium while preserving centuries of cultural heritage. Many participating artists are internationally recognized professors, award recipients, and active contributors to major exhibitions across Europe, the United States, and Asia.
Presented by OIS Art of Canada, the exhibition offers an immersive cultural experience through artist talks, a documentary screening on the history and making of Hanji, traditional Korean music performances, and artist-led workshops that encourage public participation and cultural exchange. Renowned for its durability, sustainability, and artistic versatility, Hanji offers Canadian audiences a rare opportunity to experience both the heritage and future of Korean paper art.
