Events Description

Join us for the first artist-led edition of our ‘Wellbeing Walks’ series, where participants reflect on the interconnectedness between the wellbeing of self with the natural world.

Soundings by Simon Pope with Austin Larusson and Tyler Prince invites walkers to consider their relationship to Lake Ontario and its watershed. A group of walkers will be led along the pathways of Biidaasige Park by a singer performing “sounding calls”, as a way of attending to the fluctuations of both the water-level in Lake Ontario, and our own fortunes in relation to it. Participants will encounter several LAT sculptures during the walk that will guide their experience.

Simon Pope is an internationally renowned artist and researcher from the United Kingdom currently based in Toronto, Canada. His work has focused on the internet’s social and technical networks, walking with others, collective negotiations of more-than-human social worlds, and the transdisciplinary potentials of art and sports practice. He often works in collaboration with other artists and researchers, and through partnerships with universities and museums. Pope represented Wales at the Venice Biennale of Fine Art (2003) and was a member of award-winning net.art collective I/O/D (1993-2000). He is currently Dean at Transart Institute of Creative Research.

“Austin Larusson impressed as the High Priest” (John Gilks operarambling.blog), “offering us luxury vocals” (barczablog.com), recent appearances include solos in the Messiah with the Arcady ensemble. Upcoming engagements include Jack in Earnest the Importance of Being with SOLT.

Tyler Prince is a baritone and saxophonist who is a graduate of the Phil & Eli Taylor Academy of the Royal Conservatory of Music. He has performed on stages such as, Koerner Hall, Roy Thomson Hall, Scotiabank Arena, The Four Seasons Centre for Performing Arts, and more
