Events Description
Movies at the Hub is a film screening series that invites the community to come together in a relaxed and welcoming environment to experience a wide range of films and conversations.
This month we’re screening the award winning Canadian film Riceboy Sleeps. Written, produced, edited, and directed by Anthony Shim.
Riceboy Sleeps is a coming of age film that tells the story of a young Korean single mother, So-Young (Choi Seung-yoon), raising her son, Dong-Hyun (Ethan Hwang) in the Canadian suburbs in the 1990s. Both So-Young and Dong-Hyun grapple with the complications of creating a new home in Canada, but the film highlights that no matter how a family’s bonds might be strained and tested, they never break. Heart warming and tear jerking, this film showcases a mother’s determination to provide a life for her son better than the one she left behind. Riceboy Sleeps tells a uniquely Canadian story, centering on immigration, culture and belonging.
Refreshments: Small popcorns and soda will be available for purchase throughout the evening.
