Older & Reckless, Moonhorse Dance Theatre’s acclaimed series celebrating and amplifying dance artists 45+ returns… a little different this time. Two weekends of performances, October 30, 31, November 1 & November 6, 7, 8 taking place at The Citadel: Ross Centre for Dance.

This year’s production features three dance works created and performed by luminary dance artists. The works, curated by Artistic Director Allison Cummings, seek to redefine destructive assumptions about age and dance ability; and celebrate artists over 45 who continuously take risks, ask pertinent questions and dig deep into nuance.

This year’s bill includes “Ewi, What a Dream!” a solo by Norma Araiza that explores dream time and is inspired by the 4 elements and the 4 directions of the medicine wheel; “Faerie: Gatherer of Lost Souls”, a multidisciplinary solo by Viv Moore, moves between liminal twilight worlds as Viv embodies her ancestral roots and ancient memory; and a new collaboration…

Moonhorse Dance Theatre’s interdisciplinary exchange residency, Crossing the Streams, returns! This bi-annual program matches one lifelong dance artist with a peer artist of another discipline. “Nirvana – Solo for Two” is the consequence of colliding two creative forces, dancer/choreographer Yuichiro Inoue and writer Sean Dixon. A dance on the theme of shellfishness and life emerging from darkness.

The program also features a new dance created by Bill Coleman for this year’s Older & Reckless Community Performance Project, featuring 26 mature dance enthusiasts divided into two separate casts. CPP is generously sponsored by Tamara Bernstein, through the Zita and Mark Bernstein Family Foundation.

As a special offering, live experimental audio description is offered on Saturday, November 7th. Local writers Lindsay Zier-Vogel, Keira Loughran, and Kate Story have worked in consultation with Christine Malec, to create experimental descriptions for each piece in the evening’s presentation. Combined with traditional description of what’s literally happening on stage, our descriptors will venture into subjective and emotional ways of conveying meaning and feeling, in an attempt to re-create the visuals of what the sighted audience experiences, and the emotional impact of each piece.
