Events Description

“Senescence of Dark Matter” is a sculptural exhibition by award-winning Afrofuturist artist and visual griot Quentin VerCetty, presented at the Malton Youth Hub — Jonathan Davis Centre in Mississauga. The exhibition brings together a selection of sculptural works exploring transformation, memory, growth, decay and regeneration through Afrofuturism, ecological materials and speculative storytelling.

Inspired by the idea that rare crystals are formed under pressure and mycelial networks transform decay into new life, the exhibition asks visitors to consider the “dark matter” in their own lives—the unseen histories, relationships, experiences and forces that sustain us and shape who we become.

The exhibition also represents a meaningful return to Malton for VerCetty, who spent formative years of his youth in the community. Visitors are invited to experience the artwork, gather in community and explore what can emerge when we bring what is often unseen into the light.

The exhibition opens Wednesday, October 7 at 5 PM with refreshments and live music and runs until October 14, 2026.
An Artist Talk will take place Wednesday, October 14 at 5 PM, offering visitors an opportunity to hear more about the stories, materials and creative processes behind the works.

**Admission is free and all are welcome.**

Presented by AstroSankofa Arts Initiatives with support from the Malton Black Development Association, City of Mississauga and funded by the Ontario Arts Council.
