Events Description
A MURDER murder mystery – and the 100th performance of an acclaimed Canadian puppet show.
Internationally acclaimed puppeteer Adam Francis Proulx returns to Toronto this Halloween for the 100th performance of THE FAMILY CROW: A Murder Mystery at Factory Theatre.
A group of crows is called a murder. So what happens when there is an actual murder amongst a group of crows?
You get a MURDER murder mystery!
Enter Horatio P. Corvus, an increasingly exasperated detective with one hour, five crows, and zero patience. When a murder is committed within a family of crows, Horatio must sort through the evidence, interrogate the suspects and uncover the truth before the killer gets away.
Performed by a singular actor but bringing six characters to life (and death?), The Family Crow is a puppet-fuelled, pun-filled theatrical mystery packed with atmosphere, absurdity and twists. It’s a show for anyone who loves a good story, a good pun, and a good old-fashioned whodunit—with a distinctly avian sense of humour.
This special Toronto engagement marks the 100th performance of the show, making Halloween night an especially appropriate time to return to the scene of the crime.
Critics have embraced the show’s peculiar combination of puppetry, comedy and mystery. Liz Nicolls of Edmonton called it “weird, cuckoo brilliance” and “a bona fide theatrical caws célèbre,” while Glenn Sumi of NOW Magazine described it as “delightfully atmospheric.” The Saskatoon StarPhoenix declared that audiences would be “crowing about it to all your friends,” while CJSF called it “definitely a must-see.”
The production is directed by Byron Laviolette, a director and dramaturg who has worked with interactive art forms for more than twenty-five years. His work spans clown, puppetry, immersive theatre, audio storytelling and interactive performance. He was the founding Artistic Director of What The Festival, a founding member of Morro and Jasp, and is Resident Director of Pucking Fuppet Co.
