This summer, Corktown Common residents can look forward to more Thursday evening screenings!
As part of TOPS’ 2026 journey-themed programme of open-air cinema titled Going Places, join your friends and neighbours for five Thursday evening events at Corktown Common this July. We looking forward to journeying to one of Toronto’s loveliest parks in the east end, nestled between the Distillery and the Don, with an unbeatable view of Toronto’s skyline.
As always, attendees are treated to excellent short films by local and Canadian filmmakers paired with each feature. Select screenings include in-person filmmaker introductions.

Feature: Back to the Future (Robert Zemeckis, 1985, USA
Short: Mixed Feelings (Devin Lee, 2025, Canada)
When young Marty McFly (Canada’s own Michael J. Fox), accidentally journeys back thirty years into the past with eccentric “Doc” Brown (Christopher Lloyd), figuring out how to travel “back” to 1985 is only the start of his problems. Robert Zemeckis’ sci-fi comedy is a classic in popular cinema as evidenced by its inspiration of local heroes Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol’s Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, TOPS’ opening night film this season.

Feature: Wildhood (bretten hannam, 2021, Canada)
Short #1: Anyway, I Piss Sitting Down (Zak Slattery, 2024, Canada)
Short #2: 6 minutes per kilometer (Catherine Boivin, 2022, Canada)
Bretten hannam’s film is a heartfelt 2S coming-of-age road movie that follows two brothers, Link (Phillip Lewitski) and Travis (Avery Winters-Anthony), on a journey to find their mother, finding a friendly stranger (Canadian Screen Award-winning Joshua Odjick) along the way.

Short: Ballet Jazz (Maxime Robin, 2017, Canada)
Howard Hawks’ film stars Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell in career-best performances as Lorelei Lee and Dorothy Shaw, two American showgirls who are travelling on a cruise ship to Paris, where Lorelei’s search for a fiancé turns into a madcap musical farce involving a private detective, stolen tiara, and a man named Piggy.

Short: perfectly a strangeness (Alison McAlpine, 2024, Canada)
Palme d’Or-winning and Oscar-nominated It Was Just an Accident is a psychological thriller and a scathing rebuke of Iranian authoritarianism. Car mechanic and former political prisoner, Vahid suspects he has run into his former torturer whom he kidnaps and leaves in the desert. Uncertain of the man’s identity, Vahid travels to bring a group of fellow former prisoners to the desert to help verify his beliefs.
Thursday, July 30, 2026

Short: Le Tour de Canada (John Hollands, 2025, Canada)
Jan de Bont’s feature directorial debut follows Sandra Bullock as a bus commuter who is forced into the driver’s seat by a disgruntled bomber who rigged the bus to explode if its speed drops below 50 mph. With Bullock behind the wheel, action hero Keanu Reeves has to outwit the madman – and keep the road clear for the speeding vehicle – before time runs out to save everyone on board.
