Events Description
Join us for the Autumn edition of our ‘Wellbeing Walks’ series where each season we invite an artist to create an engaging experience that explores the interconnectedness of the wellbeing of self with the wellbeing of the natural world.
River Resonances by Treva Legassie is a soundwalk that will invite participants to collectively and individually attune to the acoustic environment of Biidaasige Park. Participants will be gifted a series of listening scores on postcards, composed for the Lassonde Art Trail, that together illustrate the meandering trajectory of the newly constructed river mouth flowing through the park. Paying attention through other sensory registers, apart from the visual, we will tend to the many layers of the river’s history from marshy wetland to industrial wasteland to the revitalized park of our present moment. After the walk, participants will be invited to mail their postcards to someone they love walking with, seeding new encounters with soundwalking and flowing like water outward from our collective experience at Biidaasige Park.
Treva Legassie is a crossdisciplinary artist-curator-scholar born and based in Tkarón:to (Toronto), Treaty 13 territory. Working within complex ecologies, including urban waterways, marshes, and public parks, she composes site-specific artworks, soundscape compositions and exhibitions that transform the way audiences move and gather in public space. She has led soundwalks and presented soundscape compositions nationally and internationally and is currently a SSHRC-funded Postdoctoral Fellow with the Sonic Research Studio at Simon Fraser University.
