The town of Cobourg has decided to close the blue flag certified beach in Victoria Park for the summer of 2020.

The town council voted to keep the beach closed until August 31 and install signage informing the public about the closure to downtown streets and 401 exits leading into Cobourg.

Cobourg is a famous getaway and a day trip destination for many in Southern Ontario. The beach is also the venue for many events like Sandcastle Festival and the town’s Canada Day.

Beaches are open in Toronto and Ottawa, but those in provincial parks are currently closed. Beaches are not closed under Province of Ontario’s Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
