If you’re curious about the progress of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, a new sightseeing cruise on the Detroit River might be the most scenic way to get a closer look.

Windsor Premier Cruise
Departing from Windsor’s riverfront beginning April 12, the 2-hour cruise aboard the Macassa Bay sails right under both the existing Ambassador Bridge and the nearly completed Gordie Howe Bridge, offering a front-row view of one of North America’s most ambitious infrastructure projects.
The cruise is fully narrated, with the captain sharing details about the bridges, shoreline landmarks, and even updates on ships passing through the river. It’s a relaxing way for locals and visitors alike to explore the area, with Windsor and Detroit’s skylines serving as a striking backdrop.

The Gordie Howe Bridge, set to open in fall 2025, will span 2.5 kilometers and include six lanes of traffic. It will also hold the title of North America’s longest cable-stayed bridge, with a main span of 853 meters.
Boarding takes place 30 minutes before departure at the foot of Ouellette Street, just behind the Canadian flag. Tickets are $49.99 for adults and $34.99 for children aged 4 to 12. On Fridays, a lunch buffet is available, and all cruises include access to an à la carte menu and bar. Just a heads-up: you’ll be staying on board the whole time—no stops along the way.
While the cruise offers one of the best views from the water, those looking to see the bridge from land can also visit the Malden Park Observation Area. Located at 4200 Malden Road, the park is the highest point in Essex County and offers sweeping views of the bridge and surrounding area, along with plenty of trails for hiking or biking.
