Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights, is a five-day celebration that symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness.
The festival is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Buddhists across the world. Originating from the Sanskrit “Deepawali,” meaning “rows of lights,” it symbolizes the victory of good over evil. Hindus honour Lakshmi and commemorate Rama’s return to Ayodhya. Jains celebrate Lord Mahavira’s enlightenment, and Sikhs observe Bandi Chorh Diwas, marking Guru Hargobind Sahib’s release from captivity.
In Mississauga, enjoy Diwali Dhamaka at Capitol Banquet Hall, featuring cultural performances and food stalls. Toronto hosts the Diwali Mela with live DJs, dance, sparklers, and more at a free downtown event and the grand Diwali Festival of Lights with fireworks at Nathan Phillips Square.
Oakville presents a spectacular Diwali Festival of Lights at Centennial Square, while Caledon offers an award-winning, eco-friendly Diwali Drone Show, and Brampton celebrates Diwali with its biggest fireworks show.
