Events Description
Celebrate the joy of music, movement, and community with Early Music Alberta!
- Free Morning Workshops (9:30 AM): Join us for a Renaissance Reading Workshop and Singing Workshop — welcoming all musicians and singers for a fun, no-pressure morning of discovery and connection.
- Free Dance Workshop (12:00 PM): Step into the past and learn simple, lively dances from the Renaissance in a welcoming, joyful setting — no experience required!
- Community Concert (3:00 PM): Enjoy performances by local ensembles — Baroque ’n’ Hearts, Ensemble El Contrario, Classical Duet, and Divertimento Chamber Ensemble — celebrating Edmonton’s vibrant early-music community.
- Evening Concert (7:30 PM) — Vox Humana, Vox Humilis: This intimate program celebrates the expressive beauty of the voice with continuo, featuring soprano Jolaine Kerley, joined by Josephine van Lier (baroque cello/viola da gamba) and Leanna Regehr (harpsichord).
Experience music from the poignant delicacy of Monteverdi’s Si dolce e’l tormento and Ohime ch’io cado, to rarely heard gems by Paolo Magni, Francesco Ballarotti, and Bernardo Sabadini, culminating in a sparkling sequence of arias by Alessandro Scarlatti. Interwoven with solo works for harpsichord and strings, the concert promises both intimacy and variety — a journey through passion, grief, tenderness, and joy.
Though presented on a more modest scale than in previous years, the evening retains the elegance, depth, and artistry that define Early Music Alberta’s festival tradition.
