Edmonton Edition of World Naked Bike Ride Is This July Weekend

Heading to Old Strathcona this Saturday? Be prepared to see people riding naked on bikes.

The Edmonton edition of the World Naked Bike Ride takes place on Saturday, July 23rd.

The bike ride is an annual protest which takes place around the world against the dependence on oil by demonstrating alternates such as the bicycling, rollerblading, walking, and skateboarding.

The Saturday event will be clothing-optional and the organizers say they will be protesting to “encourage sustainable energy/transportation while rising awareness of cyclists’ vulnerability and promoting body positivity.” Those interested in taking part can show up in underwear, bikinis, costumes, disguises, body paint, topless, or totally naked.

The riders meet at Light Horse Park (10324 85 Ave NW ) at noon to decorate bikes and body paint before riding at 2:00 p.m. Skates or skateboards are not allowed due to the Municipal Traffic Bylaw.
