Spend your next family outing down on the farm – the Kraay Family Farm, to be exact!

You can find the Kraay Family Farm in central Alberta in Lacombe, which makes it an easy day trip from Red Deer, Edmonton, and Calgary.
This family-fun farm is open all day, so you can take your time exploring all their neat and unique farm-themed attractions.
There are two main attractions that draw in visitors from all around Alberta: the massive corn maze and the endless fields of sunflowers. The Sunflower bloom is fast approaching, with the petals showing their colour by late August. But we say plan for the whole day because, between the maze and the flowers, there are several smaller activities, games, and experiences for your entire family to enjoy. And come October, you’ll have access to their pumpkin patch for picking.
Here are five things to do on your family outing if you are visiting during the summer season:
1. The Challenge of the Giant Corn Maze
In case you didn’t know, Kraay Family Farm was awarded the Guinness Record for the world’s largest QR code. In 2012, the corn maze sported a QR code design that directed visitors to the website. The QR code maze measured 29,000 square metres.
This year, the farm is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and the maze design reflects “the joy, adventure, and community spirit that define Kraay Family Farm.”
The impressive picture in the corn stalks also makes for a challenging and fun afternoon of finding your way through the bends, the corners, or the dead ends. The Corn Maze usually takes a couple of hours to complete, depending on the turns you take. You can also end up at a bridge, which allows you and your family to find your way a bit faster if you need to or to get great photos of the maze.

2. Lawn Games & Activities
We recommend leaving a full day to visit Kraay Family Farm, as there will be many games and activities for your kids to challenge each other or you! You can take on life-sized games like Billiards, Foosball, or Chess or play unique sports games like The Ball Zone, Tractor Pull, Gaga Ball, Roller Bowler, and even Conk the Crow.

3. The Kids’ Rides
Give younger kids a few thrilling options for their day at the farm in between all the lawn games and sports.
This year, experience new thrills with Pig Racers, where participants power giant “pig” vehicles using their strength, and Mutton Busters, featuring carts driven by pedal power. Test your aim at the new paintball shooting range, or explore the redesigned gemstone mining sluice at Old Krow Outfitters, now with goats and a water wheel.
They can take a ride on the unique swings or the Grain Train and challenge one another to a lap of Stalk Car Racing. Other fun farm rides include the Kraay Horse Carousel (made from recycled tires!), the head-spinning Barnyard Twister, and the Bucking Bronco.

4. Sunflower Days
The sunflowers grow as tall as the corn on this farm. Mid-August is when the Kraay Farm begins to see its huge field of sunflowers bloom in bright yellows and soft golds. You can plan to take a few family photos among the towering flowers or plan for a scenic walk for a break from all the farm games.

5. Farm’s Furriest Residents
You and your kids, family, or friends will all be able to (allergies depending) get social with a variety of farm animals. During your visit to Kraay Family Farm, you can meet the ducks, get to know the pot belly pigs (who might demand treats from you), pet the friendly goats, watch the chickens and roosters, and cuddle a few bunny rabbits.
