The NHL has partnered with RCX Sports to introduce NHL STREET, an exciting, affordable, neighborhood-based youth street hockey league to Edmonton.
Catering to children aged 6 to 16, NHL STREET (ball hockey) allows participants to wear authentic uniforms while engaging in high-energy, team-focused leagues.
The NHL Street Festival will take place on April 14, from 3:45 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by the NHL Street Showcase on April 15, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, also at Fan Park @ ICE District.
Both events are free. Registration is required.
The event is part of the launching of NHL Street hockey leagues for youth in select cities across the U.S. and Canada.
NHL STREET is open to kids of all skill levels, whether they’re new to hockey or experienced ice players. The league employs its own fast-paced gameplay model, typically featuring 4-on-4 setups plus goalies, with games consisting of two 15-minute halves and shoot-outs for tie-breakers.
If the youth decide to continue to participate in NHL Street, participants should expect a commitment of around one hour per week, with most leagues operating on 6-, 8-, or 10-week cycles. Each game is preceded by a 20-minute practice session. As part of the registration, players receive a uniform, and leagues supply balls and goalie equipment. Optional personal protective gear includes helmets, gloves, shin-pads, mouthguards, and sweatbands. Skates, elbow and shoulder pads, ice hockey pants, and ice hockey goalie equipment are not allowed, but players can use their own street hockey sticks.
