Edmonton and Moncton/Dieppe Top the List of Best Places to Work From Home in Canada

PCMag has ranked various cities and towns in Canada in terms of home affordability and internet speed to find the best place to work from home.

The magazine also gave importance to places with “big-city amenities” in addition to accessibility to outdoor recreation.

Edmonton, a city of 1 million people, came out on top as homes are affordable compared to other major cities in Canada, gigabit-fibre Internet, an international airport, and year-round festivals “from jazz to fringe theatre to various heritage and history events.”

PCMag picked Moncton/Dieppe for its “huge, affordable homes”, the startup community around the Venn Innovation incubator and easy access to outdoor recreation – including an easy drive to PEI.

St. John’s suburb of Paradise came in third for its proximity to St. John’s and its “parks, playgrounds, and lakes.”

Halifax slipped to the fourth position from PCMag’s last year’s top pick because of “spiking real-estate prices.”

Colwood came in fifth and Notre-Dame-de-l’Ile-Perrot in sixth for its big houses, great options for outdoor recreation and easy access to Victoria and Montreal respectively.

Two Calgary suburbs, Okotoks and Airdrie took 7th and 9th position respectively for their proximity to Calgary and everything the city offers. PCMag ranked Okotoks ranked higher because it has “bigger homes”, but recommends Airdrie if one wants to leave the city often as it is nearer to the YYC airport, Red Deer and Edmonton.

The only location in Ontario chosen by PCMag is Nobleton in King Township. The reason, PC Mag says is that they “wanted to put something near Toronto in this list” and since no city near Toronto is affordable, Nobleton has big houses and “you’ll get more space per dollar than you will closer to Toronto.”

Saint John suburb of Quispamsis rounds out the list for its “unusually big houses that are still affordable” and of course all the outdoor adventures of New Brunswick.
