EV Charging Station Now Available at Manitoba’s Birds Hill Provincial Park

The Manitoba government is taking steps to support the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) with the launch of a new pilot project at Birds Hill Provincial Park.

Natural Resources and Northern Development Minister Greg Nesbitt announced the installation of the province’s first-ever EV charging station within the popular park.

The Level 2 charging station, located at the west beach parking lot, is part of an initiative to expand EV charging infrastructure across Manitoba’s provincial parks.

As a user-pay station, it can charge two vehicles simultaneously and will be operated by a third-party vendor.

The pilot project aims to assess the station’s effectiveness and gather valuable data to inform potential future investments in sustainable transportation options throughout the provincial park system.

“Green transportation projects play a key role in protecting our environment and water, which is a top priority for our government,” said Nesbitt announcing the news. “Shifting to electric vehicles will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support a low-carbon economy and ensure affordability for Manitobans.”

EV owners utilizing the EV charging station at Birds Hill Provincial Park can use the ChargePoint mobile app to operate the charger and make payments through a third-party vendor. After charging, it’s advised to move the vehicle promptly to avoid waiting charges.
