6. Canadian Superstars Showcase

 Three of Canada’s most illustrious musicians, violinist Scott St. John, cellist Shauna Rolston and pianist Katherine Chi, join forces to help Calgary Pro Musica celebrate Canada’s 150th Anniversary. The concert will showcase the history of Canadian composition, especially the richly romantic works from the first half of the 20th century. As part of the program, Scott St. John recreates the 1930 London BBC Radio broadcast recital of Canadian Music by Harry and Frances Adaskin. Details

Mélisande Corriveau, pardessus de viole, bass viol, Joëlle Morton, bass viol, Eric Milnes, harpsichord. Scaramella, directed by Joëlle Morton with two other outstanding early music specialists, will present this unique concert of music for viols and harpsichord. It will include a very special pardessus, which is seldom heard. When an unnamed, middle-aged white Man (Mattie Overall) meets a likewise unnamed young – possibly too young – eastern Girl (Patricia Cerra), we are offered a fictional slice of this dark practice. What begins as a seeming rendezvous between consenting individuals quickly takes an unexpected turn as the Girl seizes control of the situation and declares herself the swift hand of justice, threatening to reveal the Man as a pedophile and sexual tourist, destroying his credibility, career and life.  Details
