In this story inspired by West African legends, an ancient baobab tree stands tall amidst a persistent drought. One day the tree brings forth an egg and from the egg is born a little boy. The villagers discover that he is the only one who can free the source of water. A beautiful show in which African percussions turn into animals while masks and puppets become genies and witches!! The Observatory at University of Saskatchewan is open year-round, free of charge, on Saturday nights so that visitors may view celestial objects through the telescope.

8. Amati Quartet Concert

We present three famous quartets by Haydn, Mozart and Tchaikovsky. Haydn’s Op. 77, No. 1 contains two movements with nationalistic themes – the first movement a Hungarian recruiting song, and the last movement a Croation round dance. Mozart’s brilliant Quartet in D minor, K.421 is operatic in nature – complete with scenery, characters, ironic asides, laughs, hiccups, and sighs. Tchaikovsky’s first quartet is the first noteworthy Russian chamber music, it contains one of classical music’s greatest hits – the Andante, and according to Tchaikovsky’s own diary it moved Tolstoy to tears. 2. Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship

The winner of the Canadian championship will represent Canada at the 2017 World Mixed Doubles Championship in Lethbridge, AB a few weeks after the Canadian Championship. The 2017 championship winners will also receive a berth to the Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials, and will have the opportunity to compete to be Canada’s mixed doubles team at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

6. Brent’s Jam for ALS
